A Moment with the Mule Deer

Mule Deer, female & fawnNice to see you out my kitchen window, Ms. Deer. I wonder why you look so alert? And who is that hiding in the sumac behind you?

Mule Deer, female & fawnWell, hello there little one!

Mule Deer, female & fawnBig and little bookends.

(I fear this once burned and then felled olive tree will never manage to grow much larger. The deer come through and nibble on its tender new growth every day.)

The intense number of bitey flies these days means that their large ears are in constant motion, flicking back and forth, almost as steady as their breathing.

Whoops! I was so busy photographing that I didn’t even notice your sibling hanging back in the foliage.

The Mule Deer have been a daily joy to watch. Sometimes, when I’m wandering around outside photographing and I see a group of deer staring at me, I wonder if they don’t find some amusement on their end as well. *GRIN*

Hi Harsi — great photos….and they are out your kitchen window no less? Cool. If they are watching you, they’re probably wondering why YOUR ears aren’t flapping!! xOxXXxOx

The babies with their spots are to die for but it’s good to stay alive to see them. Thank you for sharing your view.

Hullo ladies!! ~ Lisa ~ Even though it’s been more than seven years of looking out of my cabin’s kitchen window, I never fail to be amazed and grateful for the views that it provides. Your comment made me laugh because I have often thought when out photographing that it would be VERY handy to have a pair of Mule Deer ears for myself. I’m just glad that my camera is lightweight enough that I can sometimes shoot with only one hand — I need that other one to be swatting at things! I also have had the thought that it would be lovely to invite the deer inside for some much needed respite from the flies… but sadly they always decline my invitations. 🙂 ~ Ro ~ Always so very glad to share my view with you. You so graciously return the favor on your blog regularly. I went for a short walk down to the creek as the sun was setting yesterday. I was half filled with hope and half filled with fear that I might encounter the mama bear and her cubs again. At about the same point in the road, I heard some major crashing through the brush and my heart started racing. I scanned through the plants and trees and realized I was being watched by several mama deer and their little ones. I can tell you that at that moment (once my pulse settled down) I was very happy to be “alive to see them”. 🙂
